“What if I get it wrong?”

This is a question we hear far too often from students, especially in Sec 1 and Sec 2 Science.

They hesitate to attempt the question. Or leave blanks. Or quietly panic during revision.

All because they’re afraid to make a mistake.

The Problem with Perfectionism

  1. Fear stops progress
When students are afraid to try, they don’t practise. And without practice, improvement is impossible.
  2. It creates a cycle of avoidance
They avoid difficult questions because they might “fail”—so they never learn how to solve them.
  3. They miss learning moments
Every mistake is a chance to learn. But only if they’re allowed to make one in the first place.

What We Tell Our Students

  • Mistakes are part of the process, not proof of failure.
  • Every strong Science student once wrote the wrong answer.
  • Learning happens when we try, fail, and adjust.

In our Lower Secondary Science tuition classes, we create a safe space where students can make mistakes, ask “silly” questions, and grow.

If your child is scared to try because they don’t want to get it wrong, bring them down for a trial. We’ll show them it’s okay to start imperfect—and get better from there.
